How much does a motorcycle licence cost in Belgium?

We estimate that a motorcycle licence in Belgium costs €1,000 to €1,700 if you pass the first time. Most of it goes to the driving school. This article is not a quote: schools set their own prices, so always ask for a detailed price.

Official exam fees by region

Sources: vlaanderen.be and the official GOCA Vlaanderen fee table valid from 1 January 2026 (Flanders), the official AIBV fee table valid from 1 January 2026 (Wallonia) and be.brussels (no date on the page). If you fail, you pay the fee again.

Driving-school prices

Touring quotes €50–70 per hour and €800–1,500 for a full course. The packages we checked are at the top of that range or above it:

• 12 hours + full exam: €1,250 (De Motorrijschool), €1,260 (Feu Vert, Wavre, exam fees not included), €1,370 (Auto-École Européenne, Brussels, plus €30 registration and exam fees), €1,563 (Rijschool Mercator), €1,580 (Rijschool Oudenaarde).
• 9 hours + private-ground exam: €890 to €1,190.
• Progressive access (4 hours + exam): €440 to €755, depending on the school and what is included.
• Extra hour: €80 to €110.

Other costs

• Licence card: you apply at your municipality. Ghent charges €30 for the licence and €30 for a provisional licence. Other municipalities may charge a different amount.
• Gear: for the exam you need an approved helmet, gloves, a long-sleeved jacket, long trousers and ankle-high boots. Some schools lend part of the gear during lessons. Prices vary widely, so we give no figure.
• Insurance: your own motorcycle must be registered and have valid third-party liability insurance. The premium depends on your age, experience and motorcycle.

Estimates per route

These are estimates based on the figures above, for a first-time pass:

• 12-hour route: about €1,300 to €1,650 including theory exam, package, exam fees and licence card.
• 9-hour route with provisional licence: about €1,000 to €1,350, without the cost of your own motorcycle and insurance.
